I will post an update later, as there are some pressing personal issues to attend to, but you will be pleased to hear that that everybody who entered has won a prize!
Donors Choose is a charity which lets teachers in public schools ask you for help. Teachers submit proposals, telling you exactly what they want, why they want it, and how much it will cost.
It's a great way to help kids directly, without going through a lot of red tape or worrying about your money going to a political or religious cause with which you may not agree.
Right now, there are many compassionate kids and their teachers who want to help Katrina victims, by 'adopting' devastated classrooms, or by sending school supplies to kids who have lost them in the disaster. They need your help.
It's a definite need, as kids flow into school systems surrounding the affected areas. These are school systems already straining at the seams, they won't have the resources to give these displaced children the things they lack.
From now 'til Sept 30th, all donations to DonorsChoose through amazon.com will go toward fully funding Hurricane Katrina proposals.
This is an excellent way to help Katrina victims, and also to help kids have an outlet for their desire to do something.
I know needlecrafters are generous people, and we will help out of the goodness of our hearts. However, I want to thank you for your kindness.
That's why I'm putting up quality selections from my stash as prizes!
Here's how it works:
Donors Choose will e-mail you a confirmation of your donation. Forward that confirmation to me at style@booboomonkey.com
I will enter you into the running for one of these prizes. Each $10 enters you again. Each prize is worth at least $10 retail, so if you win, you've helped a child AND gotten loot.
The contest will end on Sept 30th. I will e-mail the winners and post a list here as well. Please inform me if you wish to remain anonymous.
Winners will be selected randomly. Prizes will be awarded to those winners randomly.
All yarn comes from a non-smoking home with cats. Overseas shipping is no problem.
If you have a strong preference for prizes, or allergies or moral reasons for not wanting a particular yarn, let me know. Understand that if you win, there are absolutely no guarantees as to which prize you will receive.
